FAQ

Q?

Why should I purchase a custom fishing rod?

A.

In short, customization and the attention to detail. Each Barrett Custom fishing rod is built, one at a time, with your involvement throughout the process. Attention to detail avoids the flaws and mistakes that occur in most production fishing rods, flaws found in rods from the most popular (and expensive) manufacturers. Customization is a cornerstone to the process: Barrett Custom will build the rod you want, not whatever rod is available “on the shelf.”

Q?

Why should I choose a Barrett Custom fishing rod?

A.

Aside from the attention to detail given to each of my hand built fishing rods, the cost of a Barrett Custom rod is much lower than other custom builders. Routinely, Barrett Custom prices are lower than what you pay for the same rod produced by the manufacturer. Better yet, you can improve on a production rod by choosing your own combination of components.

Q?

What type of fishing rods do you make?

A.

Barrett Custom specializes in fly rods of all lengths and weights, including single hand, switch, and spey rods. In addition, I build freshwater spinning, casting, and trolling rods, in weights ranging from ultral-light pan fish rods, to steelhead and salmon.

Q?

What can be done to customize a fishing rod?

A.

You customize your fishing rod by choosing the blank (length, line weight, action, number of sections), components, custom components and personal touches, and the thread colors used for the guide wraps and custom decorative weaves. Each Barrett Custom fishing rod bears an inscription chosen by you: “Custom made for...”, “Happy Birthday...” “Hecho especialmente para...”

Q?

What blanks and components do you have access to?

A.

Barrett Custom can obtain blanks from virtually every manufacturer. I can match any request with regard to purpose (fly, spinning, casting, trolling), length, line weight, or number sections. Likewise, I have access to many different components to meet your request, including custom fly rod reel seat inserts (cork, or wooden inserts with a mayfly inlay); and chrome, black, or titanium components. All Barrett Custom fishing rods include burl cork grips custom made at the time of your order.

Q?

How long will I wait for a custom built fishing rod?

A.

Generally, Barrett Custom can complete your order in 6 to 8 weeks; however, this can be affected by the availability of parts, or the number of fishing rods on order at any time. I strive to fill each order as quickly as possible, and will keep you informed throughout the process.
